New moon in Aries - Conception Day 2012

New moons are associated with new beginnings, and with the moon in Aries, the sign of initiation and birth, this is further emphasized at this time. The three personal planets Sun, Moon and Mercury are conjunct, highlighting the importance of aligning heart, emotional body and mind with whatever new endeavors you are trying to birth at this time. Aries is impulsive and wants what it wants.. what do you want?  Have you been getting caught up in your head, feeding old stories about what you think you should be doing based on fear and habit? Or have your emotions and insecurities been holding you back? Now is the perfect opportunity tune into your heart, to give strength to your purpose and creative vision for your life and to take action. Let go of the need to lead with your head as it can get bogged down in detail and separation and instead lead with your heart.  Lead with that all knowing instinctual self that connects you to all.   With Mercury still retrograde until April 4th we still have time to rework and redesign our plan before communicating and actively sharing our vision.  The house that this stellium of planets falls in in your natal chart, is the area of life in which these seeds of new beginnings will flower. Where are you being called to take action, to be brave and to act? Trust that instinct, that  inner knowing, aligning your inner world, passion and needs with your actions in the outer world. Mars the ruler of Aries is retrograde in Virgo and in opposition to Chiron in Pisces highlighting the struggle between our current actions in the world and our wounds around our true vision for ourselves. What steps can we take to bring our dreams of the life we desire into alignment with the lives we have.

It is time for our personal stories, for our vocational arousal (As Barbara Marx Hubbard so beautifully puts it) to be aligned with a more conscious and collective vision. We look to the trans-personal planets for this collective impulse and find Uranus, one of the trans-personal planets is tightly involved in this new moon.  Uranus also in Aries, is nestled up closely to the Sun & Moon giving us the opportunity to evolve our personal drama and to incorporate the collective vision. Uranus is the planet of liberation, of progress of the cosmic genius, and in Aries is raw passion and primal instinct. Thus we are able at this time to download the cosmic impulse of evolution and to act on this divine inspiration. Richard Tarnas, cultural historian, philosopher and astrologer associates Uranus with the Prometheus, the Greek god who was the champion of mankind and stole fire from the gods to give to the people. Uranus represents this cosmic force that is championing for our evolution. The fire is associated with consciousness, with spirit and with Uranus in the fire sign of Aries (where is stays until 2019) we are being asked to break up our current perceptions, especially our scientific world view to incorporate a more conscious outlook.

Go out and proclaim to the sky, write in your journal, gather close friends and family together for a new moon ritual and plant your seed. It takes courage to declare and share with others what ignites you and today the cosmos has your back. Tonight there is a gathering of inspirational evolutionary leaders dedicated to birthing this new consciousness that you can join for free in the comfort of your home via webcast. In response to - New Zodiac Sign

http://www.csmonitor.com/Science/2011/0113/New-zodiac-sign-Ophiuchus-Why-astrology-is-even-sillier-than-we-thought

This is written by someone who understands astronomy and not astrology. Western tropical astrology is based on the seasons and starts at what we call the 0 Aries point at the vernal equinox ( its at 6 or 5 pisces right now i think in sidereal or the "actual"observable zodiac) , we then use an equal 30 degree segment through each sign on the suns path.  The equinox did once line up with the constellations, (that serve as the backdrop and the inspiration for astrology) however with the precession of the equinox, they don't line up anymore. Tropical Astrology is a "symbolic" solar based system oriented to earth cycles and seasons which remain constant not the constellations. (With the beginning of each season lining up with O degrees of the Cardinal signs Aries/spring, Cancer/Summer, Autumn/Libra, Capricorn/Winter)

For example let's say that Grand Central Station is the constellation of Aries and the train is the sun.  The train pulls into Platform SE (Spring Equinox) on March 21st.  We notice that we have pulled into Grand Central ... we  get out and make the following observations.. the temperature is warmer, the flowers are blooming, you hear more birds, people seem to be more active.. oh lets call it Spring. Cut to 2000 years later the train is still pulling into Platform SE as it always does (and will continue to) yet the train stops and we don't see the Grand Central Station building.. it has been moved.  We are confused? Maybe its not spring anymore? We get out and observe that.. oh it's still warm, the flowers are still blooming, what's that I hear? ... ahh many a beautiful bird song in the air.  All of the same observations can be made.  It is not Grand Central Station (or our Aries constellation) that made all of these things happen, it was simply our landmark, and perhaps at that time astrologers thought there was a connection.  However we now know in Western astrology that we are observing patterns in relation to the "apparent" movement of the Sun to the earth not to the constellations.

Vedic astrologers do use the sidereal zodiac which IS based on the orientation of the earth relative to the background constellations.  Its all about vantage points and in Western astrology we are geocentric.  :) They say that when looking at both the western and vedic chart of an individual the same messages and themes are there - its an individual's cosmic imprint spoken in different languages. We all agree that "love, l'amour, l amor are the same thing no? Astrology is just that.. a language.

So fear not your sign is still the same in the Western world.

The White Lions re-emerge at significant time on earth

 Spiritual Significance

More elusive than the African leopard, rarer than the legendary snow leopard of the Himalayas, and as white as the polar bear of Alaska, rumors of the existence of pure White Lions have existed in the African oral tradition for centuries. But there is only one place on earth where they have actually materialized—the Timbavati region bordering South Africa’s Kruger National Park.

While reports of White Lions first surfaced in the 1930s, scientists were not able to officially document their existence until 1975. It is not clear exactly when the White Lions re-emerged on our planet, but by all accounts, it happened only recently—where from still remains a mystery, but the legend goes that the White Lions are in fact star beings who came to our planet for specific spiritual purposes.

Timbavati on the Meridian of First Time (Zep Tepi)

The area of Timbavati, northeast of South Africa, happens to be exactly aligned with the Nile meridian where the iconic Sphinx of ancient Egypt is erected. The Sphinx represents the fusion of humans with lions, and both are creatures who preside over the food chain and consequently are responsible for regulating the natural order of the living.
According to indigenous knowledge, the White Lions’ arrival in this particular location and time is not a coincidence. Indigenous people across the globe believe that everything in nature happens for a reason. We live in meaningful universe, and the White Lions’ arrival at a location exactly geographically aligned with the primary sacred sites along the Nile meridian is part of a divine plan. The Nile meridian (31 East) is also called the meridian of “First Time” or “Zep Tepi,” or in other words the meridian where life first emerged on the planet.

The Age of Aquarius and Leo

Many spiritual traditions have established a notion that the alignment of the North Pole with celestial constellations determines eras or ages that govern life on our planet. The North Pole points toward a particular constellation for a period of approximately 2,150 years. Currently, this northern axis is shifting, gradually moving away from the constellation of Pisces toward the constellation of Aquarius—hence the commonly referred to Age of Aquarius.
Naturally, as the North axis starts to point toward Aquarius, its exact opposite, the South Pole axis shifts toward the opposite constellation, Leo. In astrology, Aquarius is the sign representing humans and civilization. In other words, the constellation of humans (Aquarius) is exactly opposing the constellation of lions (Leo). From this perspective, we again see humans and lions symbolically unified as an indivisible pair—and more conspicuously these are the constellations where both poles of the planet are now moving. We cannot help but notice the synchronistic manifestation of White Lions in the Southern Hemisphere at the time when the South Pole begins to point toward the constellation of Leo.

Zulu Shamans and White Lions Prophecies

Used to looking for spiritual signs in nature, African elders see the White Lions’ arrival in the wilderness as the fulfilment of an ancient prophecy indentifying these majestic creatures as angelic messengers from God. In spiritual terms their white coloring represents purity and enlightenment, beyond all racial connotations. White is sunlight and contains all the colors of the spectrum in one; white is beyond color, creed, race, or gender, and therefore is the perfect icon for South Africa’s rainbow nation and a unifying symbol across world cultures
Indeed, African elders believe that the White Lions are the most sacred animals on the African continent and are here to deliver a sacred message for humanity at this time of crisis. As an apex predator, the lion is viewed as the true guardian of the land, while the White Lion, in particular, is believed to be the King of Kings, an angelic guardian presiding over this sacred site and playing a vitally important role in the sensitive ecology of the region (and the whole world). For many centuries, African kings identified the land of Timbavati as a protected area; its name “Tsimba-vaati” is derived from the ancient Shangaan language and means “the place where star-lions came down from the heavens.”

Universal Balance

It is significant that the prophecies surrounding the White Lions correspond with the beliefs of other ancient cultures on other continents. The Global White Lion Protection Trust (WLT)’s advisory council includes indigenous elders from other cultures and continents. One of the WLT advisors, High Chief Francois Paulette of the native Canadian Dene people, speaks of the time when according to a Native American prophecy a white bison calf will stand on Mother Earth. The white bison will have black eyes, black hooves, and a black nose (i.e. not an albino) and will come to deliver a warning that humanity is at a crossroads. Humankind will face chaos, disease, and destruction unless we unite spiritually. Like the White Lions of Africa, the White Buffalos of America are an icon of love and light, uniting nations at a time when peace urgently needs to be restored on earth.

Dear Visitor,
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read this urgent message.
Whether you recognize the value of conservation for endangered animals on our planet or are sensitive
to the deep spiritual meaning of the circumstances we are about to share with you, we are positive that
you will not remain indifferent to this calling.

In a small and remote area called Timbavati, located in the northeast region of South Africa next to the
world famous Kruger National Park, the most sacred animal on the African continent, and perhaps on
the planet, has re-emerged after centuries of invisibility. The first reported sightings of this seemingly
mythical creature occurred in the 1930s but were disregarded as pure fantasy. It was only in 1975 that
Chris McBride, an animal biologist, officially verified their existence through photographic evidence—
after his family stumbled across a miraculous occurrence — white lions with coats as pure as the whitest
snow.

Messengers of the Divine Emerge in Timbavati

African Sangomas (indigenous priests) have long-since recognized White Lions as the direct messengers
of the divine—embodying a sacred essence that balances our planet’s ecosystems, and brings true
leadership among living beings. White Lions are said to have been the first animals created on Earth
and the last ones to roar if our times were to come to an end. Significantly, the precise location of their
emergence, Timbavati, is in exact longitude alignment with the Sphinx, humankind’s oldest lion riddle.
(click here to read more about the spiritual meanings associated with the White Lions and Timbavati).
Needless to say, White Lions are among the rarest of animals on the planet and their survival is of
invaluable importance, not only for conservation reasons but equally for spiritual reasons associated
with the survival of our own species.

Tragic Fate

McBride’s magical discovery led to deeply unfortunate events, however—scientists mistakenly
concluded that the lions’ white coats meant they were mere albinos. They also erroneously concluded
their scarcity resulted from lack of camouflage when hunting, thus rendering them incapable of
surviving in the wild. Although this has been repeatedly proven false, all White Lions were forcibly
removed from their natural and spiritual homelands, into zoos and circuses, and most appallingly into
South Africa’s legalized canned hunting industry (click here to read about the canned hunting industry).
In canned hunting, White Lions are bred and hand-reared to be shot inside small enclosures by wealthy
trophy hunters looking for exotic wall hangings and stuffed trophies.
Astronomical figures are offered
for White Lion trophies (in one case $165,000) Today, along with zoo and circus productions, the
White Lions’ future rests in the hands of this barbarous canned hunting industry, Without any of them
remaining in the wild, their survival hangs in the balance.

Linda Reintroduces the First White Lions to their Ancestral Home

One person has committed her life to change such a tragic fate. Extraordinary circumstances led Linda
Tucker to dedicate her life to return the White Lions to their natural kingdom. (Click here to read about
Linda’s story). Along with lion biologist Jason Turner, Linda Tucker has worked incessantly to secure land
in the endemic place of their natural occurrence: The Timbavati region. Two prides of White Lions have
been reintroduced to the wild with great success on land that is secure and protected from the threat of
the canned hunting industry. Here the lions are proving on a daily basis that they are the world’s apex
predator, and their hunting skills are not compromised in any way by their radiant white coats.
As a
charismatic animal of profound symbolic meaning, their return to the lands of their origins is restoring
balance to the entire eco-system, and creating unity and harmony between disparate tribes and
peoples in the region. Moreover, the White Lions’ reestablishment in the heartlands of their ancestral
homelands is engendering hope and courage in the impoverished communities of this region.

We Can Defy the Canned Hunting Reality

The urgency is that, today, the new generation of these two prides needs more protected heritage lands
so that this invaluable and urgent conservation and reintroduction effort can continue. It is extremely
unusual for there to be any land for sale in the Timbavati area, but recently, an extremely strategic
piece of land became available for purchase and Linda Tucker and her team and her extended group
of supporters across the globe are doing everything in their power to secure it. Due to vested interests
from the hunting fraternity, government and scientific orthodoxies fail to support the value of such a
reintroduction project, and therefore all efforts depend upon the good will of lion-hearted individuals. In
the dangerously cynical environment of our times, we can only count on ourselves to do what we know
to be the right thing for our current generation, and for generations to come.
By the end of December 2010, we must raise a total of $800,000, a third of the total cost of the strategic
land that is for sale. Having run out of options, we are turning to the greater public for help. If you can
hear the calling from the White Lion cry and help with a donation to secure this extremely rare land on
their behalf, you will take part in nothing short of a sacred effort on behalf of nature and humanity at a
time of crisis on Earth.

Can we leave the rare White Lions to the grip of the canned hunting industry?
Can we ignore the White Lions timely return to our planet at a time of great collective turmoil?

You are our most important alternative. Any contribution you can make will be greatly appreciated.
With immense gratitude,
The Global White Lion Trust

The Uranus- Pluto square and the balance of passion and perspective

I was watching the move Taking Woodstock and reflecting on the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of that time, wondering how the upcoming square will play itself out. The union of transformation and rebellion in the 60s now at a challenging square. The 60s were a period of  technological advance, revolt against oppression, both destructive and revolutionary forces in play at the same time. At the conjunction issues around woman rights were highlighted, now the stage is set where perhaps at the square it is time for gay rights to take the stage and finally be resolved and put to rest. Or perhaps it is a return to the feminine principal or at least an awareness that we have become too masculine in our ways and need to balance. How will these themes re-emerge in the world in a way that is now in conflict as reflective of the squaring off of Uranus and Pluto.  Will it be revealed that our destructive and greedy ways have gone too far and for too long in that we have blindly forced ourselves into global crisis?  A crisis (Pluto) that we will need radical change and technological reform (Uranus) to simply survive on this planet?

According to Richard Tarnas in his book Cosmos and Pscyhe and the extensive research he has done on alignments and their effects over the ages, we are already in the orb of the Uranus-Pluto square.  The square is within a 10 degree orb from 2007 to 2020. He speaks of the the alignment in terms of themes such as radical social change and cultural creativity, intensified feminist civil rights, changes in the global balance of power and time that is both creative and destructive yet certainly a tangible intensification. He talks of perhaps there being another feminist propulsion yet I wonder if the issues around gay oppression will be highlighted especially over the next 2 years while Saturn is in Libra.  Saturn in Libra speaks to a restructuring of relationships in society, a time where state will get more involved in relationships and let's hope that the sprit of equality that is the essence of libra will overcome.

I want to leave you with a line in the movie that is still reverberating in my being that really speaks to the Uranian archetype.  Our main character is asked how he is doing and he answers "my problems are nothing in perspective with what you are going through" and the girl responds in kind "maybe your problems are the most important thing happening, perspective shuts out the love". Having Moon in Aquarius I have always prided myself on my perspective and yet of late have been complaining about the lack of passion and love in my life. This one line brought it home for me, perspective distances us from love.  I think we all have much to learn from our polar opposite and for me in this case it is Leo. Leo is heart, fire, passion, love, validation.  It is being in the moment and not being afraid to say what about me? Sometimes it's not about humanity and the collective sometimes it needs to be personal. We need heart and courage and passion to fight for what we love, for what is important.

Neptune Nears End of First Orbit Since Its Discovery in 1846

This story has been corrected to reflect that Neptune will actually complete its first orbit around the sun, since being discovered, in 2011.  The planet Neptune will be in opposition - when the sun, Earth, and a planet fall in a straight line on Aug. 20. The planet will be exactly opposite the sun in the sky, being highest in the sky at local midnight. Usually this is also the point where the planet is closest to the Earth.

This opposition is special because Neptune will be returning close to the spot where it was discovered in 1846, marking its first complete trip around the sun since its discovery. Neptune is close, but still not quite at the finish line of its first orbit since being discovered yet. That will occur in 2011, according to NASA.

Coincidentally, the opposition in 1846 also fell on Aug. 20, although the planet wasn't actually spotted until over a month later, on Sept. 23.
This Neptune sky map shows where to find the planet as it completes it hits opposition this year.
Strange path to discovery.  The discovery of Neptune has an interesting prehistory.

The planet Uranus was discovered more or less by accident in 1781 by Sir William Herschel, in the course of his search for deep sky objects. As time went by, Uranus' position wasn't quite what astronomer's predicted, and mathematical astronomers began to suspect that there was another planet out there whose gravity was influencing Uranus' motion.  In the mid-1840s an Englishman named John Couch Adams and a Frenchman named Urbain Le Verrier independently calculated where this new planet would have to be located to have the observed effect on Uranus, but both had trouble getting observational astronomers interested in looking for it.

Finally the German astronomer Johann Galle actually looked at the predicted location and discovered the tiny blue-green disk of the planet that eventually came to be known as Neptune. The date was Sept. 23, 1846. This led to a drawn out battle between French and English astronomers as to who pointed to Neptune first; in the end, a three-way tie was declared and Adams, Le Verrier, and Galle share the honor of discovering Neptune.

Ironically, Galle was not the first person to observe Neptune. That honor goes to none other than Galileo Galilei, who twice observed Neptune but mistook it for a star, on Dec. 28, 1612, and Jan. 27, 1613. Galileo had two strikes against him: first, the small size and poor quality of his telescopes, and secondly he happened to observe Neptune when it was stationary, as happens to all planets from time to time because of the relative motions of the planet and Earth.

For nearly a century Neptune was the planet farthest from the sun, only losing that honor when tiny Pluto was discovered by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930. Now that the International Astronomical Union has downgraded Pluto's status, Neptune is once again the farthest known planet from the sun - at least in our solar system.  Because of its great distance from the sun, 30 astronomical units out (1 AU is the distance from the sun to Earth), and its relatively small diameter (30,800 miles/49,500 km), Neptune is a dim and tiny object in amateur telescopes. While Uranus can just be glimpsed with the naked eye under perfect dark sky conditions, Neptune requires binoculars or a small telescope to be seen.

Around 1 a.m. this week look for the large but faint triangle of Capricornus, to the left of Sagittarius and the Milky Way. The two stars at the left end of the triangle point the way to Neptune, just a little bit short of and above the star Iota in the neighboring constellation Aquarius.
In a small telescope, Neptune will look just like a star; what gives it away is its distinctive blue-green color.

Although tiny in a telescope and dwarfed by giants Jupiter and Saturn, Neptune is still four times the diameter of the Earth. Like all the gas giant planets, it shows only an atmosphere, in this case fairly featureless. When the Voyager 2 passed by in 1989 it photographed a huge "Blue Spot" in Neptune's upper atmosphere, perhaps similar to the Great Red Spot on Jupiter. Like all the gas giants, Neptune has a system of rings, but these are far fainter than Saturn's famous rings.

Although Neptune's face appears serene, its atmosphere boasts winds which travel almost at supersonic speeds. Its 13 moons range in size from what are little more than boulders up to Triton, 1,680 miles (2,700 km.) in diameter.
